The STRAWBERRIES have arrived and they are luscious and sweet.

 Feel free to stop by any time and harvest what you like until the
season is over!  Its the middle bed at the front of the garden. Be sure
to bring a little bag or basket.   

REMINDER:  plots are available for your individual use; just let us know when you can come by to get a garden orientation. 

 HELP:  We would also greatly appreciate any weeding or general maintenance on any day you can get to the garden. Keeping the grass cut and weeds down is our biggest challenge right now.   Currently we do not have any tools stored on site, but will hopefully have a storage container with some tools  soon.  We desperately  need weeding on the  garden parameter  ( sidewalk and in between plants) on Schley Ave. and Southern. One of our new garden members did a lovely job removing side walk weeds!  it makes such a huge difference and the neighbors won't be be mad at us.

Whats GROWING:  Essence has decided to start a plot of her own; growing sweet potatoes (for her mama), string beans, tomatoes and squash. wish me luck. We hope to have two individual plost started soon. 

Even  if you can't make a regular commitment please do come by to help when you can.

Hello Friends of UUG!

Unity Urban Garden is getting in gear this 2012 season with new zeal.  We will gather Tuesday May 1,  5:30-7:30pm  for our first garden day. See below what we have in store for this year:

Regular GARDEN DAYS will be TUESDAYS 5:30-7:30pm  and SATURDAYS: 10-12pm  (email or call before coming on Saturday)


INDIVIDUAL GARDEN PLOTS

This year we will try something new by providing individual garden plots for interested community members. Currently there are 7 plots available measuring 6x12.  Since this is something new for us there is no fee for the plot this year; just provide your own seeds, personal hand tools and time. Water sources are available. There are also Master Gardeners who you can consult with if you are new to gardening. In exchange for the plot we ask that you help with garden maintenance and upkeep.


GENERAL VOLUNTEER  NEEDS
If you are not interested in your own plot we still need your help with the following:
* Rain barrel management
* Strawberry patch maintenance
* Herb garden maintenance
* Community organizing skills to assist with community outreach
* Revitalization of the garden fence and sign. Construction skills needed for this project
*Grant research and writing

If those jobs don't suit you we can find something for you.
